FAQ

1. When are 2023 GSF program applications due?
All completed applications must be submitted by midnight (EST) on April 10, 2023. Applications submitted after the deadline, and applications missing required information and files will not be considered.

2. How do I apply?
To apply for the 2023 GSF program, applicants must complete the online 2023 GSF Application Form and submit with the necessary documents no later than midnight (EST) on April 10, 2023.

3. How should I submit my application documents?
All application documents and supporting materials must be submitted via the online application located Apply – GSF 2023 (globalsustainabilityfellows.org). We advise you to have all materials ready to submit before beginning the application process. No application materials will be accepted via email or mail.

4. How will I know my application has been received?
Applicants will receive a confirmation notice upon submission of their application as well as a copy of their submitted application.

5. Will I be able to submit a late application?
No. All application materials must be submitted by the stated application deadline of midnight (EST) on April 10, 2023.

6. Can I update my application?
Applicants are advised to have all the necessary information and materials ready to submit before beginning the application process. Please ensure that you are satisfied with your application before the final submission and before uploading any documentation. Once documents are submitted, you will not be able to update them.

7. What should I do if I experience a technical glitch while submitting my application?
If you are unable to submit your application because of a technical glitch, you can exit the document and try again. If you continue to experience technical difficulties, please inform us by contacting gsf@sustainabilitylabs.org. (Please note: No applications will be accepted via this email address.)

8. How many Fellows will be accepted into the 2023 GSF program?
The GSF program accommodates twenty fellows representing multiple disciplines and countries of origin.

9. How are Fellows selected?
Applicants are evaluated based on their demonstration of a deep commitment to sustainability, their capacity and desire to understand The Lab’s framework and its relevance to the sustainability challenge, their background as relevant to the 2023 GSF program requirements, experience, and service attitude as well as demonstrated ability to work, learn and collaborate as part of a team. 10. Who will review my application?
All applications and documentation will be reviewed by a panel of faculty leading the GSF 2023 educational experience.

11. When will I be notified?
Candidates selected for the 2023 GSF program will be informed by April 22, 2023, via the email you provided in your application. All selected candidates must respond to the Acceptance Notification email no later than midnight (EST) on April 30, 2023, to confirm acceptance and secure their position.

12. Is there an interview for the 2023 GSF program?
In some cases, interviews might be required. Candidates are chosen on the merits of their documentation, including a CV/resume, cover letter and video or artistic expression. For details on required documentation, visit: Apply – GSF 2023 (globalsustainabilityfellows.org)

13. Are references required?
Yes. The 2023 GSF Program requires each candidate to provide three references.

14. Can previous Fellows apply for the 2023 GSF program?
No. The 2023 GSF program experience is focused on preparing new students to be leaders. We strive to engage a broad variety of potential candidates.

15. Can I apply for the 2023 GSF program if I am not a graduate student?
Yes. Applicants with at least a master’s degree, qualified professionals with outstanding experience in their field, and candidates with other relevant backgrounds and post-graduate experience deeply committed to sustainability are encouraged to apply. 16. What travel documents are required for the 2023 GSF program?
Applicants must have the required visa and travel documents for Spain.

17. When will the 2023 GSF session take place?
The 2023 program runs three weeks from June 5, 2023, through July 30, 2023. Starts with a virtual orientation session (June 5 to June 23, 2023) that is approximately eight hours per week, followed by an on-site experience in La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain (July 9 to July 30, 2023)

18. What are the benefits of the 2023 GSF program?
The Lab’s 2023 Global Sustainability Fellows program represents a unique opportunity for transformative professional and personal growth, with a dynamic curriculum focused on sustainability, system thinking, and sustainable development.

19. Do I get a certificate after completion?
After completion of the full summer session, Fellows will receive an official Fellowship certificate from The Sustainability Laboratory. Opportunities may be available to obtain academic credits.

20. Am I expected to attend all sessions of the program?
Yes. All 2023 Fellows are required to participate in all sessions and aspects of the program.

21. Why should I participate?
The GSF program offers exceptional opportunities for Fellows to cultivate their ability to tackle complex sustainability related issues. As a Fellow you will have an opportunity to interact with experts and like-minded cohorts, while exploring a beautiful island eco-system and interacting with the local community.

22. Are there any health restrictions or medical requirements?
While there are no special medical requirements, the GSF 2023 program will comply with all COVID-19 guidelines in effect at the time of the program. Candidates are expected to be in good general health and are advised to consult a physician regarding any personal restrictions.

23. Is there a Liability Waiver?
Upon acceptance, Fellows will be required to sign a Liability Waiver.
